Gut microbiome — decoded
The Vivabioma Shotgun metagenomics test — 80 million reads per sample, 45+ reports on bacteria, fungi, viruses and functional pathways. Stool sample at home, report interpretation and personal recommendations.

A screening study, not clinical diagnostics
Vivabioma is a functional screening study — it maps the composition of gut microorganisms and helps you make informed nutrition and lifestyle decisions. It does not replace colonoscopy, calprotectin, PCR for pathogens or a doctor's diagnosis. If you have concerning symptoms (blood in stool, weight loss, persistent pain, fever) — see your family doctor or a gastroenterologist first.
Our goal is to interpret the results in context — together with your history, blood tests and lifestyle — and to build a personalized action plan that will genuinely improve how you feel.
Why the microbiome matters
Your second "organ" weighs up to 2 kg and controls more than you think
The gut microbiome takes part in calibrating the immune system, synthesizing vitamins (K2, B12, folate), producing short-chain fatty acids (butyrate feeds the gut epithelium), synthesizing neurotransmitter precursors (~90% of serotonin precursors are formed in the gut) and shaping the glucose response after meals.
Dysbiosis — a microbial imbalance — is closely linked to insulin resistance, allergies, anxiety and autoimmune diseases. The test doesn't diagnose disease, but helps you understand how to adjust diet, prebiotics and probiotics.
Chronic digestive disorders
Bloating, constipation, diarrhea, IBS-type symptoms
Gut-brain axis
Anxiety, mood disorders, sleep disturbances, "brain fog"
Metabolic dysfunction
Insulin resistance, weight issues, chronic inflammation
Autoimmunity and allergies
Skin problems, eczema, food sensitivities

What the report covers
Four blocks, 45+ reports
Diversity and balance
12 reports — bacterial species richness, alpha and beta diversity, ecosystem resilience to stress and antibiotic courses.
Functionality and metabolism
24 reports — how the microbiome produces vitamins (K2, B12, folate), short-chain fatty acids (SCFA — butyrate, propionate) and affects blood sugar response.

Technology
Illumina Shotgun metagenomics — 80M reads / sample
- Detects bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses and parasites at the strain level — not just genus level as in 16S rRNA tests
- Functional mapping: metabolic pathways, antibiotic resistance genes (resistome)
- European labs certified to ISO 17025, 13485 and 15189
- SSL-encrypted data transfer, GDPR compliance
- Stool sample shipping included in the price
How the test works
Four steps — most of them at home
The test price includes report interpretation and personal recommendations. If you'd like a separate consultation — choose the combined package.
- 1
Book
Book your test package online. We'll send you a Vivabioma sample collection kit with instructions.
- 2
Stool sample at home
You take a small sample yourself at home (~10 min). You send it back by mail to the lab in Spain — shipping is included in the price.
- 3
Results in 6–8 weeks
The lab sequences the sample using Illumina Shotgun technology (80M reads/sample). The report arrives by e-mail.
- 4
Report interpretation and recommendations
Dr Saadi interprets the report in context and prepares personal nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. This is not a separate consultation.

Sample results
What does a microbiome report look like?
The Vivabioma report gives an overview of gut bacterial diversity, important bacterial strains and functional balance. Below is an illustrative example — your results depend on your unique microbiome.
Overall score
Microbiome diversity
Shannon index + richness score compared to healthy adults
Category
Key bacterial strains
- Akkermansia muciniphilaLow (0.3%)
- Faecalibacterium prausnitziiGood (4.2%)
- Bifidobacterium spp.Borderline
- Firmicutes / Bacteroidetes ratio1.8 : 1
300+ bacterial species analyzed
Sample data for illustration. Besides the scores, the Vivabioma report includes specific nutrition recommendations (prebiotic fiber, fermented foods, polyphenols) aimed at supporting underrepresented beneficial bacterial strains. In the consultation we review the results together and build a practical 8–12 week action plan for you.

The microbiome is plastic
New habits, new microbiome
Unlike genes, the microbiome changes within weeks. Diet, sleep, stress and antibiotics quickly reshape the bacterial composition. If you're deliberately working on your gut function, it makes sense to repeat the test after 3–6 months to assess the direction and effectiveness of the changes.
Every previous report is updated in the portal free of charge as Vivabioma's scientific database grows.

Reminder: the Vivabioma test is a functional screening study, not a diagnostic medical test. Every significant finding requires a doctor's evaluation, and if there are concerning symptoms, see a gastroenterologist first.
