Cancer prevention

Cancer prevention – mapping your risks and everyday choices that matter

Cancer cannot always be prevented, but many risk factors can be identified and influenced. Synage Health helps map your individual risk profile – genetics, metabolism, lifestyle and blood work – and build a practical plan for preventive choices.

Choose a 25 or 45 min consultation – the doctor will decide together with you which tests to add if needed.

Three pillars we look at for every patient

Genetic background

Hereditary risk factors and polygenic scores that inform where to focus in lifestyle.

Metabolism & inflammation

Insulin resistance, chronic inflammation and visceral fat are today linked to the risk of several cancers.

Lifestyle & environment

Nutrition, sleep, movement, alcohol, vitamin D, weight – daily choices you can change concretely.

Tests & analyses

How we map your risk

A data-driven approach: genetic test + blood work + gut microbiome + clinical interpretation – not one-off screening without context.

Lab technician processing blood samples for risk marker analysis

Genetic test with clinical interpretation

Hereditary risk profiles, pharmacogenetics and individual strengths and weaknesses.

Gut microbiome analysis

Microbiome diversity and inflammation markers – one factor linked to long-term health and risk.

Extended blood work + consultation

Metabolic panel, inflammation markers, vitamin D, hormonal background – with clinical interpretation as part of a comprehensive check-up.

Partner clinics

When needed, we refer you for additional investigations

If during the consultation it becomes clear that your risk profile calls for imaging or endoscopic investigations, the doctor issues a referral to trusted partner clinics in Estonia. The investigations themselves are not part of Synage Health services and are paid directly to the service provider.

  • Thyroid ultrasound
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Colonoscopy and gastroscopy (endoscopic investigations)
  • MRI and CT imaging
  • Dermatologist consultation for skin cancer screening (dermatoscopy)

A referral is issued only in case of an individual clinical indication. All investigations are performed at licensed partner clinics in accordance with Estonian healthcare regulations.

Lifestyle that affects risk

Seven daily factors with the strongest evidence base

Each factor works when it’s part of a system – not a one-off effort.

  • Nutrition: plant-forward and protein-rich, minimally ultra-processed, enough fiber and polyphenols.
  • Body weight and visceral fat – metabolic health is one of the strongest modifiable factors.
  • Correcting insulin and leptin resistance – a key lever for restoring metabolism and hormonal balance.
  • Movement: regular moderate + strength training; less sitting.
  • Sleep 7–8 hours and stress management – both influence inflammation and hormones.
  • Reducing alcohol and quitting smoking.
  • Reducing environmental toxin load – plastics, pesticides, heavy metals, indoor air and household chemistry audit.

The weight of each factor depends on your individual profile. This is reviewed with the doctor.

Risk mapping

What you take away from a consultation

The consultation gives you context – without fear-mongering and without false promises.

  • Your individual risk profile based on genetics + labs + lifestyle.
  • Which screenings and how often make sense (via GP / specialist).
  • Priority lifestyle changes that matter most for your profile.
  • A clear next step – comprehensive check-up, genetic test, microbiome or a follow-up consultation.

What this service is and what it is not

  • An educational and preventive consultation to map risk factors.
  • Evidence-based support on lifestyle, nutrition, fasting, physical activity and supplementation.
  • Influencing epigenetic factors to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer.
  • When needed, a referral for additional investigations at partner clinics.
  • It is not an oncology service and not cancer diagnostics.
  • It is not cancer treatment and does not replace an oncologist’s consultation.
  • It does not replace your GP or national screening programs.
  • It cannot guarantee prevention of cancer – it only helps reduce existing modifiable risks.

Who this service is not for

Being upfront saves your time and money. This service is not the right choice if:

  • If you expect a full program in one appointment – a single visit gives an overview and next steps, not long-term follow-up.
  • If you have no lab results to bring – we start with a testing plan and discuss results at the next visit.
  • For acute problems (severe pain, fever, breathing difficulty, injury) – contact your GP, an on-call doctor or the emergency department.
  • If you expect a replacement for diagnosis and treatment – we work alongside your GP and specialists, not instead of them.
  • If you only want a prescription or a certificate without an assessment – we do not issue those at a prevention visit.
